The Wampanoag Perspective

In September 2021, the Bassetlaw Museum and Pilgrims Gallery in Retford will host ambassadors of the Wampanoag Nation.

The visitors will speak at an international conference and craft a wetu (a traditional dwelling) in the Museum's gardens during their visit.

They will also exhibit a variety of traditional arts and crafts at Bassetlaw Museum throughout their visit.

In addition, local school children will be invited to attend complementary education sessions to learn about the powerful connections between the Wampanoag and the Mayflower passengers.

Originally planned for summer 2020, the visit will have added resonance in 2021 as the 400th anniversary of the 'first Thanksgiving'.
