New Mayflower 1620 Menu and overnight offer at The Pier in Harwich

Dec 16, 2019

A hotel at one of the key locations in the Mayflower story has unveiled a mouthwatering new menu to mark the 400th anniversary year in 2020.

Home to the Mayflower's captain, Christopher Jones, Harwich plays a hugely important part in the Pilgrims' story.

To honour the Essex town’s proud association with the historic voyage, The Pier at Harwich will launch its Mayflower 1620 Menu in January, while there is also a special overnight offer for people wanting to stay at this wonderful hotel.

The Pier has long been a special destination for lovers of fabulous food and drink. Its first-floor restaurant overlooks the harbour, ships and working docks and is only a stone’s throw from the estuary where fresh fish is landed daily.

Crabs, scallops, prawns, mussels... what's not to love?!

What’s on the Mayflower 1620 Menu?

For January and February 2020, chefs at The Pier have conjured up some delicious dishes which perfectly reflect the waterfront location.

Their Mayflower 1620 Menu features a selection of stunning local seafood, superb steak and wonderful wine, all designed to tickle your taste buds!

The Baked Seafood Platter includes Harwich Crab Thermidor, Baked Scallop Rockafeller, garlic king prawns, mussels, crispy squid and skinny fries, while the succulent 300g sirloin steak is served with skinny fries, field mushroom, baby gem with parmesan dressing and crispy onions, together with a choice of of peppercorn or Bernaise sauce.

Wine choices are a half-litre carafe of Petit Chablis (La Chablisienne 2016, Burgundy France – or equivalent) or a half-litre carafe of Malbec (Vista Flores, Catena 2016 Mendoza, Argentina – or equivalent).

The food and the wine choices each cost £16.20 (of course!), and the Mayflower 1620 Menu is available at lunch and dinner, Monday to Friday, during January and February 2020 excluding Valentine's Day (Friday. 14 February).
