Fydell House
The American room at Fydell House was opened by US ambassador Joseph Kennedy in 1938.
This is a fine example of a Georgian house built in the early 1700's by the Jackson family and bought and altered in the 1720's by Joseph Fydell, a local merchant and importer of cloth and henceforth named after him.
It is a fine example of high domestic architecture of the period and has many original features including a formal walled garden. Joseph Kennedy opened the American Room in 1938 in his role as ambassador of the USA.
Fydell House is primarily used for education courses, conferences, events and weddings. Visitors are very welcome when the house is open. Special events can be booked by arrangement.
