Re-Informed: Some Call It Home

This short film in the Mayflower 400 ‘Re-informed’ digital series goes behind the scenes of a provocative multimedia music drama which has just premiered at Theatre Royal Plymouth.

Some Call It Home is a contemporary classical piece which forms a hugely important part of the Mayflower 400 commemorations.

This thought-provoking performance piece responds to the arrival of the Mayflower passengers in modern-day Massachusetts 400 years ago and asks the central question: ‘What can we learn about the events of 1620?’

Our film talks to Dr Robert Taub, music director at The Arts Institute Plymouth and the creator, producer and director of Some Call It Home.

Dr Taub discusses gives an in-depth look at the critical events - past and present - that have inspired and influenced this performance, as well as the incredible, contrasting styles of internationally renowned composers Jane O'Leary and Jonathan Dawe, who composed original music for the piece.

We also hear from NYC Metropolitan Opera Young Artist award-winning soprano Erika Baikoff, who played a leading role in Some Call It Home.
