Mayflower400 partner destinations:
May 13, 2020
A new project has been launched in Plymouth to inspire people to make music, connect with other people and create something new.
Part of the Mayflower 400 Community Sparks programme, ‘You Are Welcome Here’ aims to develop international and cultural inclusivity within The Imperfect Orchestra and the wider music community in Plymouth.
Mayflower 400 Community Sparks’ is a partnership project between Mayflower 400, Plymouth Culture, Plymouth City Council, The Box, Plymouth and Vital Sparks with funding via Arts Council England.
Britain’s Ocean City is a diverse community, and organisers want to help change and celebrate people’s shared love for music.
If you live in Plymouth and are a foreign national, immigrant, refugee, international student, or have a non-British cultural heritage, Imperfect Orchestra invites you to record music, video, spoken word and any other form of sound, and to share what reminds you of ‘home’ - whether that’s Plymouth, or somewhere else.
They want to hear from people from around the world who love music as much as their do - including musicians, singers and sound-makers, as well as anyone with an interest in music including people who don’t yet play an instrument.
Throughout 2020, The Imperfect Orchestra is also facilitating a series of international music nights and online events in Plymouth as part of a larger project.
These events are completely free and open access for people to share their culture, to come and play music from around the world, and to learn about new music from each other.
