Learn and perform some of the courtly dances from the time of the Mayflower.
Come and play in the band, or take part in the one-day workshop for a fun and interesting experience.
The tutor for the day is Barbara Segal, an internationally-renowned teacher and performer of Renaissance and Baroque dance, while the dance band will be Toute Ensemble (and others).
At the end of the day (3.30pm), the dances will be performed at the Piazza in Plymouth city centre.
Everyone is welcome to attend but you must register in advance as numbers are limited.
Toute Ensemble is a group of eight musicians, playing early instruments including recorders, windcaps (crumhorns, cornamusen, cortols) shawms, dulcians, sackbut, small pipes and lute.
Their music usually includes a variety of percussion and they also sing. Toute Ensemble have Elizabethan-style costumes which they wear for performances when appropriate.
The band was formed 20 years ago and now plays throughout Plymouth and South East Cornwall at fairs, fêtes, dances, banquets and concerts, especially within Tudor premises, including under the Christmas garland at the National Trust's Cotehele House, and in their courtyard in summer, for Plymouth's celebrations of Sir Francis Drake, various street festivals, for village fêtes, church events, at Stuart House in Liskeard and for Camelford's 750th Charter Celebrations.
Their repertoire varies from very early music (12th century), Renaissance (including the famous Playford dances) early Baroque and folk music through to 21st century pieces, all performed with skill, enthusiasm and a uniquely lively style.
