The story of the Pilgrim Fathers: Who were they, where did they come from, and what happened to them after they sailed from Southampton?
This illustrated talk presented by Jake Simpkin brings to life the extraordinary characters, who risked everything to create a perfect society. They survived against all odds, and established a colony, but the community they hoped for never materialised.
Jake has been a Blue Badge Tourist Guide since 1992, with a particular interest in Southampton’s links with the United States. His research into the Millionth Yank who sailed from Southampton during the D Day campaign led to a permanent exhibition of the story being staged in the soldier’s hometown in the USA.
The talk is part of a series of talks in Southampton called Talking through history: Voyages and Pilgrimages.
