A full sized replica of the Mayflower will be burnt in spectacular fashion for the unique Bonfire 2020 event in Great Torrington, North Devon.
The replica is currently being built by fund-raising organisation the Great Torrington Cavaliers, who have a decades-old tradition of creating large, detailed structures before setting them alight for a stunning bonfire - usually to mark historical events.
The Cavaliers plan to build the replica in port, flanked by buildings, and light it for the breathtaking display on Saturday, August 29th, 2020.
The replica being built
The group's history actually dates back to the 350th anniversary commemorations, when the city of Plymouth invited organisations in Devon to take part in a carnival. The Cavaliers formed to represent Great Torrington and entered a replica of the old town church as a float for the carnival.
In 2016 the bonfire experts were awarded the Queens Award for Volunteer Services. Proceeds from their fund-raising goes to local charities. You can donate via their website here
