Worcester Mayflower Gala Concert

This year marks the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower's voyage to North America. Worcestershire's most famous Mayflower passenger was Edward Winslow, who became Governor of Plymouth Colony and was also a leading diplomat, politician and peacekeeper.

The Worcester Mayflower Gala Concert includes the 'World Premiere' of a specially-commissioned, major choral/orchestral work from composer Philip Sawyers - titled Mayflower on The Sea Of Time.

The work tells of the journey, the issues of the time, and Worcestershire's part in the Mayflower story.

Performed by 200 students and teachers of the Worcestershire Mayflower Chorus under the direction of Neil Ferris (Director of the BBC Symphony Chorus) with the English Symphony Orchestra.

The programme includes masterpieces of the English and American orchestral repertoire, conducted by Kenneth Woods (Artistic Director of the English Symphony Orchestra) and features the talented students of Worcester's Academy Theatre Arts in a specially-choreographed performance of Copland's iconic ballet, Appalachian Spring.
