A dazzling street parade and vibrant performances commemorating 400 years since the Mayflower's voyage, the Pilgrims' story and its connection to Gainsborough.
Featuring digital projections onto Gainsborough's historic Old Hall and a parade through the town with willow lanterns made by artists, community groups and young people from Gainsborough.
Illuminate is the official opening event for the Mayflower 400 commemoration year, the start of a 12-month programme of events across the world. Illuminate events will be taking place across the Mayflower destinations in November 2019 and in November 2020.
Illuminate Gainsborough is part of the Pilgrim Roots ‘Pilgrim Festival’, a two-week festival in the home towns and villages of many of the Mayflower Pilgrims including Gainsborough, Bawtry, Boston, Retford, Worksop and Immingham. It is also part of the Being Human Festival.
The event in Gainsborough will start with a performance at the United Reformed Church by Rhubarb Theatre. This will include a welcome speech. At 5pm the parade will be assembled outside All Saint Parish Church (next door).
The parade will go over to Gainsborough Old Hall, where there will be light projections on to the walls of the Hall.
The parade will stop for a few minutes and then move on to Lord Street, then on to Market Street, before finishing at Marshall’s Yard.
You'll be the first to hear the latest Mayflower news, events, and more.
